I wanted to share with you my memories from a trip I took a few months back. My mum-in-law came to visit and both of us went to see my OH's then project site in Huizhou, Guangdong, which is about 1,5 hour drive from Guangzhou.
I haven't been to the actual town itself, only the surrounding area but I was very impressed with the mountainous landscapes and crystal-clear lakes. As it was a really hot day(isn't it always in Guangzhou?), I was able to observe the locals relaxing by the river, swimming in its super-clean waters and trying to catch some fish.
Unfortunately, as with everything, there are two sides to this story and apart from gorgeous views and laughing youth I also saw extreme poverty of the Chinese countryside. We're talking old brick and wooden huts with no bathrooms or, in fact, running water. Bear in mind, the villages I passed were tiny, with only a few houses, where the locals rely almost entirely on farming and live off their land. Click here to see more photos from that trip.
